Re: How to Synchronize Only PB8 Changes w/CM Synergy

We use PB 7 now and are looking to upgrade shop to PB 8.0.3 in Sept/03.  Our SCM client is CM Synergy from Telelogic and the new PB 8 implementation of MS SCC compliant API causes us to now have to use separate collaborative CM Synergy projects for each developer to collect changes instead of one shared PB 8 project.  In order for other developers and/or build manager to get changes you have to reconfigure, but this only brings over the decompiled (exported ascii) version which are kept in CM Synergy.  You must use a synchronization function which powergen has in order to compile (import) those changes into the objects/PBLs.  We have over 6000 objects in our project and the synchronization looks at each object even if you only have 40 or 50 changes.    This means the PB 8 Get Latest Version action is too time consuming and error prone.   PowerGen 5.5's synchronization is taking over two hours per synchronization.  Is there any way you can manage to synchronize say fifty  changes accurately using PowerGen and hit those changes and only those changes?

BTW we use inheritance extensively and  have regeneration problems sometimes from using "windows" which sit on "tabs" which sit on "subtabs" which sit on "pages" which sit on "subpages", etc.  and all having to be automatically regenerated in cardinal order.

Any suggestions?

Re: How to Synchronize Only PB8 Changes w/CM Synergy

Hi Craig,

This first to look at is why the PowerGen Sync is taking 2 hours.  It shouldn't be requiring anything like that.

First check the import settings: Options->Import.  Make sure the option to "Regenerate descendants of imported Objects" is set and that the option to "Regenerate all objects after last import phase" is clear.

If you haven't been running with these settings, try it and let me know what happens.  If they are set this way, can you send a copy of the output log from one of the Sync runs?

Regards,

Phil
