Re: PowerGen fails to assign correct version number to the EXE the way PB IDE does

Hello,

We are using PowerGen 7.5 called from a batch file to build our PB 11.5 applications. We noticed that PowerGen ignores File Version information specified in the Project painter and assigns a default version no 1.0.0.1 to every application executable. While that was unimportant before, right now it starts to be a huge problem since we're going to use MSI Windows installer for app deployment and it refuses to replace an EXE with a newer one if version numbers of the old and the new one match.

PowerGen help says nothing about controlling version numbers. Is it possible to specify it, either somewhere in the PowerGen GUI or in .GEN file we're relying on? Any help will be greatly appreciated. This seems to be a very serious problem for our group. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Leon,

PowerGen ships with a utility called VersionEdit.  It has a GUI and a command line interface.  You can use it to version any executables (not just PowerBuilder) and is substantially more versatile than the Project Painter.
