I upgraded powerbuilder to 8.0.4 on our Powergen machine, extracted the source from PVCS, then created new PBLs and did a bootstrap import with Powergen.
Initially everything seemed fine. Compilation was error free. Certain memory related problems that we had previously experienced were cured. However we started to experience problems with some of our main windows crashing. This occured with the PB8.04 runtime DLLs, but, oddly enough, not with the 8.03 runtimes. We consider it unwise to issue the 8.04 application with 8.03 runtimes, so unless we can find a cure to this problem, we are likely to downgrade back to 8.03. One of my managers believes that the compiler may be set to build an 8.04 application, but still to use 8.03 runtimes, but I do not understand how this is possible.
The build number of the PB8 exe, the development DLLs and runtime DLLs are all 10501.
Can anybody shed any light on this?
If it's any help, what seems to be the main problem area is manipulating menus. I see in the read me file that there are problems with copying menus, but we don't do anything particularly exotic - say disabling menu items, occasional use of setmenu. Nor do we have problems everywhere.
Hi Dave,
We discussed this via e-mail, but I thought I'd repeat the information here.
From your description this appears to be a run-time bug in PB. Also the fact you're getting the error in the IDE would support the idea that it isn't a build problem. And I would agree with you that is a bad idea to mix build-time DLLs and run-time DLLs.
