Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

I have three nightly builds that I run, in which I get the latest source out of VSS and then run a synchronization and full build.  1 of the builds is working fine, the other 2 though are experiencing problems with several objects that get synchronized (most of the time they shouldn't be because they haven't changed) having no code, they are just empty objects.  If I check the source file that it would have used for the synchronization it looks fine.

Any ideas?  It is to a point where PowerGen is no longer usable for us for these two applications.

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

I need a little a few more details.

Are you saying that the sources that you are synchronizing to have code in them, but the resulting objects in the PBLs have no code?

Is the problem reproducible?  If so can you send one or more the objects that are causing trouble?

Can you send the output log produced by the synchronization?

I suspect a configuration problem, since there are no other reports of problems like this.

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

Yes the object that I am synchronizing have code in them.  If the object is a window I will wind up with an empty window even though it should have objects on it (buttons, datawindows, etc.)

The problem is intermittent in that it will occur for 4-5 days in a row and then the next day it is fine and everything builds correctly.  Currently everthing is fine again,  I do not have a log available right now where I experienced the problem.

One thing I have noticed is that the objects that cause the most problems have not changed (several have not changed in over 2 years) but PowerGen reports that they have and that it is resynching them.  This last time I also noticed that I would get ""Performing Phase 1 Import - Adding Name Signatures"" and ""Performing Phase 2 Import - Adding Other Reference Signatures"" but I do not get ""Performing Phase 3 Import - Adding Full Object Information"".  Now that everything is working I do get the Phase 3 in the log.

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

Are the objects that you synchronizing to on a network drive or are they on a local drive.

The only explanation I can offer is that the particular files cannot be read for those intermittent failures.   Is that possible?  I haven't seen any other occurrence of this.  If you can provide more information the next time it happens, let me know.

Phil

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

The files are on a local drive.  The next time this occurs I will collect more info and see if I can send you the objects.

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

The problem has occured again.  I am attaching the log file from last nights build.  I think what is happening is that PowerGen is just "shutting done" during the Phase 2 of the synchronization process, so all I have for the objects that have changed are the "name signatures" and not "full object information".

Re: Problem with empty objects after synchronization

I didn't get the attachment (or maybe I just can't find it).  Can you e-mail to philw@ecrane.com?

I think your theory is correct.  If the import failed halfway through, you would have objects in a very incomplete state.  We should be able to track this down with a little more information.

Thanks for your help.

Phil
